On or about April 25, 2007, while employed in a hospital in Houston, the RN failed to communicate to a physician or primary care provider, with urgency, changes in the condition of a patient who was assigned to her care.
The RN also failed to accurately and completely document care provided to the patient. Her conduct resulted in an inaccurate medical record and was likely to injure the patient in that subsequent caregivers did not have accurate and complete information on which to base their decisions for further interventions and care.
Subsequently, the patient, who was experiencing respiratory distress, adverse changes in vital signs, and low oxygen saturation levels, was found unresponsive and eventually died.
The RN’s failure to communicate complete and accurate information to a primary care provider may have denied said patient of timely medical interventions, which may have prevented the patient’s demise.
Because of this, the RN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing to hear her side of the story.
However, without valid evidence and a good nurse attorney to help her defend her side, the RN was disciplined by the Texas Board of Nursing.
