Any type of accusations can be defended, as long as there is a skilled nurse attorney ready to assist you during the hearing before the Board of Nursing. The Texas Board of Nursing has full jurisdiction regarding cases that may affect an RN or LVN’s license from suspension, disciplinary action or revocation.
On or about April 17-18, 1999, while employed in a hospital in San Antonio, the LVN failed to intervene for at least six hours when the condition of a patient changed. The LVN noted that no pulses could be palpated in the patient’s right foot throughout the night, and in addition, the foot was cold to touch and cyanotic. Pulses were palpated by the physician when the patient was admitted through the Emergency Room before being transferred to the LVN’s care on the unit. A subsequent thrombectomy was unsuccessful in restoring circulation to the leg, and on April 20, 1999, the patient underwent a right below the knee amputation.
Because of this, the LVN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing. However, she failed to appear at the court to defend her side of the story.
Because of this incident, the Texas Board of Nursing then subjected the LVN and her license into disciplinary action.
