Losing your license may greatly affect your future career, but only if you failed to hire a nurse attorney for your case. There are some RNs and LVNs who missed their chances to get their license saved from revocation just because they weren’t able to hire any nurse attorney to properly defend them.  This RN from Houston, Texas happens to be one of them.

On or about February 12, 2016, the RN failed to complete a Skilled Nursing Visit, as scheduled, for a patient. and failed to notify her employer of the missed visil. On February 14, 2016, the patient was admitted due to weakness and swelling of the legs. Her conduct was likely to injure the patient in that failure to see the patient as ordered by the physician could have resulted in non-efficácious treatment.

On or about April 1, 2016, through June 30, 2016, the RN withdrew fifteen (15) tablets of Hydrocodone 10/325mg, seven (7) tablets of Hydrocodone 5/32$mg, one (1) tablet of Alprazolam 0.25mg, two (2) tablets of APAP/Codeine #3, and three (3) syringes of Guiafen/Codeine 100/10mg from the Medication Dispensing System for patients, but failed to document the administration of the medication in the patients’ Medication Administration Records and Nursing Notes.

Her conduct was likely to injure the patients, in that subsequent care givers would rely on her documentation to further medicate the patients which could result in an overdose. Additionally, her conduct placed the hospital in violation of Chapter 481 (Controlled Substance Act) of the Texas Health and Safety Code.

The RN was given the chance to defend herself and denied all the accusations and cases filed against her. However, without enough evidence to support her case and a nurse attorney to help her, she was discipline. Thus, the Texas Board of Nursing subjected her license for revocation.
