The work that nurses do is often unappreciated. And sometimes, a bit of negligence could lead to a more serious scenario such as filing a suit against them. If this happens to an RN, they should know how to protect and defend themselves. If not properly defended by a Houston nurse license attorney, their license could even be suspended or revoked. A perfect example of this incident happened to an LVN in Dalhart when she was disciplined for negligence.

At the time of the initial incident, the LVN was employed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a university hospital in Dalhart and had been in this position for four 4 years.

On or about July 19 2012 through August 20 2012 while employed, the LVN failed to notify the physician of a patient after she discovered she had continued to administer a morning dose of insulin to the patient after the order had been discontinued by the physician.

When she discovered her error she attempted to make corrections to the entries in the patient’s electronic medical record and inadvertently deleted the entries.

The LVN’s conduct exposed the patient unnecessarily to a risk of harm from administering insulin at a frequency in excess of the physician’s order which could have resulted in the patient suffering from low blood glucose levels and resulted in an inaccurate medical record that subsequent providers would rely on for further care decisions.

Because of this, the LVN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing to hear her side of the story.

During the hearing, the LVN states she didn’t notice the order had been discontinued and when she did notice she accessed the patient’s electronic medical record to note that the insulin had been given in error but instead of making the clarification she deleted all the past entries.

The LVN states she noticed the error on the 19th and told her supervisor about it the next day.

However, without valid evidence and a good Houston nurse license attorney to help her defend her side, the LVN was disciplined by the Texas Board of Nursing.

This is just one of the many cases why every nurse in Texas is expected to act with prudence in practicing the profession. Gross negligence, disobedience or any form of offense on the part of an RN or LVN is never excused.
